Video glasses are a type of technology that has never really taken off, because the technologies that are required have never really melded all that well. This latest product, the Qingbar GP300, from Yellow Mosquito, makes a damned fine attempt, but if you ask me, is a little off course. Sure it will give you a 50″ screen for a fraction of the cost and a lot less material than a beastly LCD or Plasma display, but it stops short of greatness because of some engineering shortcomings.
The trouble is, they have tried to pack everything into the glasses, including an earphone jack. Rather than do that, why not offload some of the hardware onto a remote unit. If you are going to have wires dangling off this thing, why not eliminate some more of the weight from the glasses and supply these functions via the base unit. Power, sound and memory access and USB could all be supplied from the base unit. The nose plates look uncomfortable. They would have done better to opt for a single piece bridge. Think interchangeable rather than adjustable. (more…)

This small audio / video camera spy Chinavision put a touch of James Bond in his Juicy Fruit. In size perfectly to slide inconspicuously in a wrapper of chewing gum, swallowing the camera in severe emergencies will be much more acceptable. Insurance specifications leave much to be desired, such as 176×144 video in 3GP format (mobile phone MPEG4) is not going to convince any international court that these women have towel fights in the locker room need to be arrested. But 2GB MicroSD slot should accommodate many video. (more…)

ToysREvil has the scoop on a limited edition pair of Daft Punk Bearbricks, meant to coincide with the release of Daft Punk’s Alive 2007 CD. Medicom will release 3000 of these toys on December 5, package them with a copy of the CD and sell it for 5250 Yen ($48), presumably in Japan. The Bearbricks also come housed in a pyramid, not unlike the one Daft Punk used for their epic live shows. The set as a whole looks pretty sweet, but I think I like the earlier Daft Punk/Medicom collaborations better…and now I sound like an obsessive DP fanboy.
