Laser Cosmos

Just occasionally a product comes along that simply blows us away. We get to see a lot of crazy and sometimes brilliant inventions, but Laser Cosmos is without a doubt the most superb one we’ve seen. There is no product out there that comes even close to the sheer excellence of this galactic wonder - sorry to sound quite so effusive, but really, it’s staggering.

Imagine lying in your room, and having the ceiling whipped away to reveal the vast outreaches of the cosmos whirling overhead, complete with misty blue nebulae (which you can turn on and off!) and the occasional shooting star. Fully adjustable and requiring no set up, this super powerful space projector scatters a random panoply of sparkling green stars that will fill any room from the tiniest bedroom to the largest warehouse with a crystal clear animated star display. What’s so clever about this (apart from everything of course) is that it seems so three-dimensional, the varying brightness of different stars makes some seem close and others to come from distant galaxies. EzVision Video eyewear

These are all very Blade Runner meets Minority Report. Basically these space age shades are your very own take anywhere 50 inch movie screen. Weighing in at just 68g, ezVision Video specs plug into your iPod Video or any portable video/movie/DVD player and screens your movies in such a way that it seems as though you’re looking at a huge screen. They allow you to zone out from the world around you and get right into the movie, slide show, or whatever. There are retractable headphones that are built into the arms of the specs, so you can truly plug-in and zone-out. Watch movies in bed without disturbing your better half, chill out on the train in front of a top film, or plug in in-flight and free yourself from those horrible little seat-back screens. They have an 8 hour re-chargeable battery, an integral volume control, and come with adaptors to connect to iPods (and we tried it successfully with the new Zune player too) and DVD players. When you can’t get to the cinema, bring the cinema to you. (more…)

Beer Machine

Ever since pubs started being replaced by ‘bars’ it’s become increasingly difficult to buy a decent pint - and bottled beers seem to be little more than gas and weed killer. In the past homebrew was equally awful, and a lot murkier, but thanks to some astoundingly brilliant Canadians home brewed beer is now dangerously gorgeous and easy to make. The Beer Machine is simplicity itself to use, just add the beer mixture (made from 100% natural ingredients and delightfully free of all those ghastly chemicals.), and in seven to ten days you’ll have 17 pints of really excellent beer.

It’s fun, it’s easy, and boy what a great reward. (more…)

120-inch Dreamcade Vision 120 Arcade Center

This does look like a cool way to play games, but when you really get down to what this device is, you cannot help but think that perhaps it would be possible to put together something just as good for a much lower price. The problem that I have with the machine lies in its specs.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ and a high output DLP projector with a 2000:1 contrast ratio and a native resolution of 1024 x 768 that can be scaled to 1400 x 1050. (more…)

Plasma Bulb Night Light

Plasma is the fourth state of matter. When a solid melts, it becomes gaseous and it is stripped of its electrons, it becomes a plasma. Plasma has found uses on the big screen television, fusion generator research, and has been focused on knowing how offensive bolts and devices! Now, we must exploit the enormous potential for the plasma used to gently illuminate his bedroom.
We all know that the monsters under your bed and in your closet are just afraid of the light, it is a documented fact! The challenge becomes how to generate enough light to ward off the monsters, and yet still let you sleep throughout the night. This plasma bulb nightlight does just that, filling the room with the purple-soothing glow of electrons cascade down to the ground state. (more…)

Geek Hacks Laptop, Puts in Electric Guitar

guitar

Old laptops are a geek modder’s best friend: this particular example is one of the better mods we’ve seen to incorporate an old lappie, with a guy called Ben sticking his old machine behind the strings of an electric guitar. He then linked up the sound produced by the guitar to a visualizer in the laptop, allowing it to pump some psychedelic-looking sound waves out to onlookers. Beats the usual sticker decorations.

Tokyo Bloggers Meetup - Prizes, Beer, Food and …

Saturday, November 24th, 2007 |

Blog-happy Tokyo residents might want to make a note of a fun event taking place in early December at which they could walk off with not just a Sanyo Xacti camcorder for free, but also plenty of insight from a living, breathing Japanese video-blogging legend.

The gig is being staged at the Pink Cow bar (so, there’s booze, ok? grin) by our pal Andrew Shuttleworth, so is guaranteed to be worth the trip. I’ll let Andrew tell you all about it below and maybe see you there:
